Organisation of an Ecosystem


  • 1) A group of students were investigating how the distribution of daisies changes, in relation to distance from a large tree. They wanted to know if less daisies grew closer to the tree, where it was shadier. The students had a light meter, a tape measure and a quadrat. Explain how they would use this equipment to collect data for their experiment 6 Marks

  • 4) The presence of the large tree will affect the distribution of daisies around its base for other reasons than altering the intensity of light in the area. Suggest what other factor the students will need to take into account when drawing conclusions from this experiment 2 Marks

  • 5) When the daisies die, they are decomposed, allowing the carbon stored within them to continue the carbon cycle. Explain what happens to this carbon once it has been decomposed by microorganisms 4 Marks
